Freaking Awesome Farmhouse Rugs Part 2

You all loved the first 7 neutral farmhouse rugs I shared with you back in August, so I had to come back with my new Fall Fav’s! I am really loving the vintage inspired patterns and neutral warm colors that are out right now.

I’ve had a crazy obsession with Boutiquerugs.com since I came across them this summer and I am constantly finding myself perusing their new inventory of amazing farmhouse rugs! So in honor of your fall decorating I’m including my favorite area rugs with you to get your house decorated for the holidays- but are transitional enough that they will work year round!

YOU REALLY DON'T NEED A COFFEE TABLE IN YOUR LIVING ROOM!

REAL LIFE: Why You DON'T Need a Coffee Table in Your Living Room!

My Kid Friendly Living Room Doesn’t Have A Coffee Table- (And I totally don’t miss it!)

As I have been putting together my new house one layer at a time- I have gone back and forth on weather or not I actually need a coffee table, and you know what, I totally don’t! We have an active 2 year old, an 85lb Black Lab/ Rottweiler / Pit bull Mix and 2 crazy cats- so function is way more important for our lifestyle.

As I work thru my punch list of decor that I want to add to my new house, I am finally seeing everything come to light. We have painted almost every room on the first floor, I have purchased a rug, new wall decor and a couple of rugs- everything is finally come into place. But the one thing that I had always gone back and forth on was if I wanted to add an ottoman on casters to move around the room or a hard top coffee table. Truth be told, we f*cking LIVE in our living room. We eat here, we work here, we relax here so moving a hard top coffee table any time we want to jam out to some Baby Shark, build a pillow fort or drag out a Gazillion toys to play with at once, just isn’t realistic!

So I’m substituting! We have nesting tables in the corner with a lamp on it, I pull out the bottom one to use as a TV tray- and I have a C shape side table that tucks under the sectional- This one I leave out because I can easily move it around or tuck it under the sofa if we are using the floor space.

3 Ways To Transform Your Rental Kitchen Under $200

This house is more than double the size of our Bronx brownstone so I finally have a pace for everything- we had to keep so much in storage while we lived there. But there are a few downfalls to all the space- I mentioned some silly quarks in the house in my last post but the worst part is by far the hideous kitchen.  It was done very inexpensively and I'm guessing it was put in 15-20 years ago.  So when we found the place I knew this was going to be one of my first projects.

I have only done THREE things and drastically changed the look and feel of the space. My style is cosmopolitan Farmhouse- meaning I love a mix of contemporary and modern farmhouse design with clean lines and neutral colors. I incorporate coastal and rustic elements to create a refined farmhouse look!

Tips to Declutter & Transition Your Decor to Your New House

Our 30 Year Old Hodge Podge of Decor

So, I'm 30 (well, I will be in August) and I'm going thru a time in my decor(I know you can relate) where we have a really really nice things, but then we have a weird collection of stuff my husband came with (which has made its way mostly to the garage), the hammy-downs from our parents and grandparents. As I'm sifting through our miscellaneous "treasures" for the first time in 3 years since we moved to the Bronx, I'm made super aware of the following things:

1. Our styles change a lot over the past decade!

2. We live with various roommates, significant others or family members and we accumulate their stuff in addition to the stuff we bought together that isn't our style but somehow we ended up with it.

3. Our families give us a LOT of weird stuff they thing we will use but really don't even know what it does! I'm talking kitchen utensils that not even my Executive Chef husband can decipher.

4. We compromise our style for function and price.

3 Easy Steps to Mix Patterns & Textures Like a Pro

What is the main reason you hire an interior designer? To create a cohesive design that mixes colors, patterns and materials and create a cozy space. It is my FAVORITE part of my job.  I love to create inspired designs that are functional for every day life with a busy family but so pretty that your home is the envy of all of your friends.  The best part is- I do this on a budget that people can actually afford because I truly believe that everyone can have a well designed home.

In this post I'm going to share with you my tips to create a designer inspired look for your living room. You will learn how to mix match patterns and fabrics as well as finishes and paint. I will teach you my process to create your own mood board to visualize your new space. I am also including 6 mood boards to inspire your color palette and pattern play!   You may choose to get samples and create this board with the real materials or you can make it digitally using Powerpoint (I use Photoshop but Powerpoint will work just the same for you here too!) If you are going to use pictures from you actual space on your digital mood board (vs ordering swatches) you should take them all during the same time of day (the lighting will be consistent) with as much natural light as possible so the images aren't too dark and it will read better.

Always think of your room in layers, doing this will break it down into small manageable pieces and create depth in the overall look. When I'm designing I always am looking for contrast. Here is an example- working from the floor up. If the flooring is dark- I choose a lighter rug (or something with bolder light colors and some darker if you have kids or pets). If the rug is lighter- the sofa can be darker. If the sofa is darker the walls can be lighter- and so on.

8 Unique Designer Farmhouse Finds

If you have been following my blog you have seen my list of 100+ Stores to buy Farmhouse Decor and More-so you know I am always on the look out for really unique farmhouse pieces to share with you all.  I recently came across a really awesome farmhouse shop that has some really unique pieces. Its called Unlimited Home Decor , it's a great small business that is owned by Lisa Burnham out of Kansas.

I always say when you can shop local or small business DO IT! The larger stores are great for bigger items sometimes but when it comes to unique decorative pieces that your friends won't all have- its great to go to a small business! I always feel like I am directly impacting families vs large company executives when I make a purchase, and there is no better feeling than that!
