Why we chose to relocate our family to nexton, South Carolina

Why our family chose to build in and move to Nexton, SC

We call ourselves serial movers for a reason. We love to hop from state to state and experience new cultures, new jobs, and new opportunities to explore new locations. My Sagittarius explorer husband has always gravitated toward the ocean. St. Thomas is one of our favorite places to vacation, he would live there in a heartbeat if he could. But with a lot of his family slowly relocating to the Charleston general area over the past decade or so- it was eventually our turn to make the move.

With my husband’s cousins with young kids building right across the street from us, this was the right move for our kids to have family nearby. Where before we were in Florida with no family close by at all.

As much as we loved living in Gainesville and the friends that we made there- coming from NYC and other cities with a lot of activities to do with the family, we were really looking for an area that had a lot of close by events and family-friendly festivities while our kids are young.

We were also looking for convenience. We love to try new restaurants, local boutiques, and small businesses and meet people in our neighborhood. And of course, the beautiful climate of Charleston, South Carolina.

So we started looking at Nexton, in Summerville South Carolina. A master plan community that has been winning awards left and right for its awesomeness!

Nexton Neighborhoods

With a variety of neighborhoods all offering different amenities and communities, there is something for everyone and if it’s not here yet- it’s probably coming in the next stage of development.

It’s an exciting time to buy into this quickly growing community, especially with all the future growth- it’s going to explode here with booming small businesses that are convenient to all these small communities! Bringing people together from all walks of life.

I was curious if many people that purchase homes in Nexton are transplants to Charleston so I asked Bo- Nexton’s Community Outreach Coordinator and he said, “I would say it’s about 50/50. We certainly have plenty of folks coming from all over the country but, also have lots of people who live right here who see Nexton as a place to be.”

Schools

With our daughter starting kindergarten this year, we planned our move so that we could build the house and move here from Flordia in time for her to start the new year in her new school. With Cane Bay Elementary and Nexton Elementary to choose from (in our zoned area) we have 2 great options for schools.

And future plans to continue to grow the Nexton school district will come in handy when she’s ready to move to middle school and it’s time for our son to go to school.

One downfall, there are many young kids in this area so our 1.5 year old son has been on a daycare waitlist at a few different locations for over a year with no signs of getting in. Luckily we found a great nanny that helps out a couple of times a week and there are some wonderful Facebook groups (and Care.com) to find nannies or babysitter child care provided.

Location. Location. Location-

With all this great intel coming from Bo, of course, I had some more questions for him about what the vibe is like in Nexton and why people are drawn to it. And convenience is definitely the key! The best of both worlds, all that Charleston has to offer but the small town- the convenience of Nexton’s location.

Bo says, “The greatest things about Nexton are its access to I-26 and everything that’s here and to come. Unless you are going to the beach, downtown Charleston, or the airport you don’t really need to leave.”

I get so excited when they release information on what’s coming to the area. So many grocery stores, restaurants, and other conveniences that make living here so much sweeter!

Community & Events

Since living here, we have tried to attend as many events as possible! Bo says, “I encourage everyone to visit https://www.nexton.com/news-events/! There’s always something going on plus with Nexton Square and North Creek Village Market Place, there’s certainly no shortage of places to grab a bite to eat. Not to mention more things to come throughout Nexton.”

Personally, our family loves going to downtown Summerville too. Just a couple minutes away and if there isn’t anything happening in Nexton that week, there is probably something going on in the charming city of Summerville, SC. With weekly farmers markets, festivals, and other events for the whole family- we love the old city charm right near Nexton!

I also like to follow the “Inspired Nexton” Instagram page to stay up to date on all the community happenings :)
